Earth Hour

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Mar 27 at 8:30pm is Earth Hour 2010  – an opportunity for each of us to impact the effects of global warming on our planet by simply turning out the lights.  Earth Hour began in 2007 in the city of Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million of it’s residents switched off their lights as a ‘green’ message to the world.  Last year, 4000 cities across the globe plunged into darkness to highlight the issues surrounding climate change.

This year our very own Harrison Resort & Spa will be participating in Earth Hour by extinguishing the lights on their outdoor roof and trees, upper and lower lobbies as well as in the Copper Room, Lakeside Cafe and Islands Bar with service being provided by candlelight!

Join the movement and make your stand – turn out the lights and show what can be done.

One of the earliest signs of Spring is the Easter holiday.  This is the perfect time to getaway with the kids and relax for some quality family time.  Several of the local hotels in the Harrison Hot Springs area have Easter Getaway Specials and nearby Kilby Historic Site celebrates with an Easter Egg Hunt, crafts and the opportunity to meet and cuddle the resident bunnies; www.kilby.ca.  Minter Gardens also opens showcasing their spring blooms and the golf courses are in great shape from our mild winter; www.mintergardens.com

Spring Break

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

The cherry trees are in bloom and the daffodils are popping up signalling the start of Spring!  Harrison Hot Springs is great place to take a break close to home.  The Harrison Hot Springs Resort & Spa has a fantastic family package during the school break periods;
Check it out online at http://www.harrisonresort.com/VacationPackage_Family.aspx

The Circle Farm Tour is also a must do while in town; stop by Farm House Cheeses for hand-made artisan cheeses, Canadian Hazelnuts for candy coated treats, Limbert Mountain Farm for fresh herbs, tea blends and specialty foods and at the Back Porch the coffee pot is always on to try their latest blend.

The Agassiz Leisure Services Department has planned a special family show for Thursday March 11 at the Fitness/Activity Centre.  It is a comedic, theatrical story of a family of Trolls living in a Canadian forest.  The Trollson’s events have toured Canada coast to coast and the area is fortunate to have them perform locally.  This is a free event starting at 1 pm.  For more information call 604-796-8891.

On March 13 the Pine Leaf Boys come to town.  This Louisiana based band will provide high energy cajun music in the intimate setting of the Harrison Memorial Hall.  Tickets are $20 and the concert starts at 8pm.  Call 604-796-3664 or visit www.harrisonfestival.com
