Touring with Shoreline

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

Despite the chilly winds and icy drizzle this was a great fall adventure.  Admittedly the cozy warmth of the Laroan’s enclosed lower deck was a huge factor in making the less than ideal weather bareable, even welcoming.  The first leg of our Harrison River tour took us to ancient pictographs on a rock face just inside the mouth of the river – a reminder of the areas rich First Nations culture.  And then came the bald eagles.  Thousands of them in the trees, on the sandy banks or soaring on the winds.  They are drawn to the area each year to feast on the equally abdundant spawning salmon.  Even the seals and seagulls were taking advantage of an easily caught meal.  On the return trip, we stopped at the sunken remains of the historic steam tug, the Port Douglas SS or otherwise known as The Bubbles & Squeak

A special thanks to Steve and Gail for their fantastic hospitality and exceptional service.  To head out on the water with Shoreline Tours, simply board the Laroan at the Harrison Resort dock.  Tours launch at 1pm daily all year round.

The Eagles Have Landed

The eagles are here… make sure you take a boat trip down the Harrison River to see them.  Close to 2000 bald eagles migrate to the Harrison River at this time of year and it really is a spectacular sight.  Both Shoreline Tours and Harrison Eco Tours offer trips from Harrison Hot Springs.  On Nov 20/21 the Fraser Valley Bald Eagle Festival celebrates the great raptors with events, activities and entertainment for the whole family.  Also that weekend the following accommodation providers in Harrison offer special Bald Eagle Fest rates:  Harrison Hot Springs Resort & Spa, Harrison Beach Hotel, Harrison Heritage House & Cottages and Hot Spring Villa Hotel
